LOCAL AUTHOR EVENT: Helen Bonner at 6:30 PM on July 16th: The Laid Daughter. In this memoir, author Helen Bonner will share the story of her childhood sexual abuse and the healing power of truth. “…a child wondering through the dark house, her rage in one hand and her love in the other.” Dr. Bonner is retired from the creative writing faculty at the University of Minnesota and is the author of several plays, novels, and short stories. She is currently on the faculty of the Goldrush Writers – an annual retreat for writers in northern California. Her next memoir, First Love Last, will be published in the fall. She is a resident of Amador County.

Reader's Book Club: Choose the titles and meet once a month to discuss them.
Preschool Storytime: Introduce young children to the world of books and to encourage literacy. It will meet once a week for half an hour, and is open to all kids and their parents. If you enjoy reading to children, we are looking for volunteer readers from the community.
Summer Reading Program begins in June to encourage kids to read over the summer and awards prizes for their efforts. More info coming soon. For more information stop by the Library or call Jim at 296-3111.
Adult Spanish for Travelers
Held in May and June, midweek of this year in Jackson. This 5 week series of classes costs $50 total and is for those who know the basic pronunciation of Spanish. The series will focus on vocabulary of interest to travelers such a "at the hotel, at the restaurant, at customs, at the beach" and will include an extensive vocabulary list for handcrafts especially the "artesanias" of Mexico, one of the greatest craft producing countries in the world. The dates have not been set, so if you're interested call Nora Coryell, 223-3322 for further information. Those wishing to attend only the crafts lecture, which will include many examples of fascinating craftwork and Mexican religious art, can do so for $15. It will be the final class in the series and will be held in mid-June, date to be based on preference of the majority of attendees.

Last Child in the Woods by Richard Louv. Child Advocate Louv maintains that exposure to nature is essential for a healthy childhood and directly links the lack of nature in the lives of today’s wired generation to some of the most disturbing childhood trends such as obesity, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and depression. This book empowers parents to take the first steps toward nature-child reunion. Library patrons may pick up copies of the featured book at the Jackson Library. All are invited to attend the book club.

Officers and Board of Directors meet every 3rd Thursday at 9AM at the Main Library in Jackson. FACL was formed in 1953 and is dedicated to support the goals and services of free libraries in the United States and specifically the library system of Amador County.
